I'm a photographer. I wouldn't call myself a professional one, but I have been working hard at improving my skills. Photography has been a passion of mine since the beginning of high school. If you ask me one thing I could not be without, I would definitely have to say my camera. I'm not exactly a "people photographer" (however, I have shot friends in the past, and I want to photograph more people); I mostly photograph nature and my surroundings.
People joke around with me to stop taking pictures like a tourist, but sometimes when you take photos, you can have amazing shots with no intention of making it photographic at all. I've had a couple of these cases, and your best work can be an unintentional piece.
I'm not a photographer who likes to show off their work. I'm someone who's very personal and likes to keep my work to myself. However, many years ago I created a deviantART account (a website where aritsts, whether amateur, expert, or novice, can have a "gallery" of their work of art while receiving critiques from other artists). I haven't been on my account in about a year now... to be honest, I am so busy in college, it's hard for me to put as much effort as I did in high school on my hobbies.
The school offers a photography class, which I am determined to get into. I don't care if I can't take it because it's not part of my core or major; I will take the extra three credits if necessary.
Unfortunately, I'm not the owner of a Canon EOS, Nikon 2300 or any expensive cameras. I use a camera that's worth probably $300, To have some of your best photographs, yes, it usually matters what camera you use. But most of the time, it's how you use the camera--the lighting, the perspective, the distance, etc. People also think that using photoshop means your photos automatically come out amazing, too. Using photoshop takes a lot of time and patience. It's not a simple magic wand button you click and the photo comes out gorgeous. I personally don't use photoshop in my photos--it ruins the originality of the photos. (However, I will use it sometimes for certain tricks).
Here's some of my work that I just pulled up from a few folders I found.

| This was probably the first photograph I took (from middle school) and had critiqued. |

Kristin, all of your pictures are beautiful!! It is so true, I can definitely always depend on you to have your camera with you to take great pictures! You should definitely let more people know about your photography skills!
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa! I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things with photography, I just need the inspiration and muse, haha.
