It's hard to believe that in a week, it will be my last day in the second grade class I'm observing at. I'm always a sap when it comes to this stuff. I've been leading groups at camps since I was in 6th grade, and I started teaching when I was in 9th grade--you would think after all these years, I'd stop being emotional about this?!
I've gotten really close with these students, and I've seen both sides of the children--the studious, quiet children in the classroom, and the outgoing, crazy children during electives. (My favorite activity with them has been our Leprechaun Hunt a few weeks ago--we had to walk around the school to find all the leprechauns!)
It's funny how some of the kids are connected to people I know. One girl in my class is the daughter of one of my high school gym teachers, while one boy has an older sister who I taught 1st grade Religious Education to four years ago! When I've been in the hallways, or watching the recently performed "Lewis and Clark" 4th grade play, I've also seen some students that I've had in past years--whether it was for Religious Education, my town summer camp, or both! I especially amazed when I saw some of the fourth and fifth graders I had when they were in 1st grade--they've grown up so much!
My last day is going to be the day before their spring break. Hopefully it ends on a good note! It's hard to move on, but I know that I may see some of them again, maybe at the summer camp that I work. Assuming I still stay as a "3rd grade counselor", there's a chance I may have some of them in my group!
I hope everyone's observations are going great!
